Stump Bowl

Kel(ly) is a whimsical forest sprite in human form so I wanted to make her something befitting that nature. It was so fun and freeing to make! I just took a big block of dark matter clay and carved it away, piece by piece until it was a rustic little log. Sadly it ended up with a big old crack through the middle and leaks very badly πŸ˜… it made an excellent snack bowl for our studio session together though! Maybe a good planter too, inbuilt drainage πŸ₯²

Keane dark matter clay body carved kurinuki style, and then refined and textured with various tools. The mushrooms and interior of the bowl have Keane stoneware 7 slip painted in/on them in an engobe style for better glaze vibrancy. Glazes used are wheelhouse studio honeycomb and ketchup, northcote pottery supplies Chun blue and orange gloss. The honeycomb has an olive finish rather than purely golden and I’m not sure why, but I think it works. Kinda 70s looking? Fired cone 10 oxidation.

(Took a little longer to dry out because it was so thick, but I think I should have dried it even slower to avoid the cracking, note to self!)
