Myffy's Fountain

Another commission piece! This is to be a rustic, outdoor dog water dish for a medieval larp village. Made to memorialise the late, great Myffy. A gorgeous corgi queen, sadly gone too soon. Rest in peace lovely lady, and may many future creatures be nourished by your cool, clear waters π
I was inspired by the rustic medieval setting, and wanted the bowl to be very strong but to have a rough, ancient, weathered look to it. It was made to very specific dimensions in order to fit beneath a water tower on the property so that was also an interesting challenge, taking into account the clay shrinkage when firing.
I decided to go with the Keane ironstone clay body for the strength (it contains grog, an aggregate for strength and to reduce shrinkage) and because I noticed when making the chook plates that the clear satin glaze gives that weathering effect and wanted to make use of that here.
Handbuilt with slabs, pinned at the corners with Keane white raku and dark matter clays marbled together to give a wood grain effect. The surface decoration was etched and painted with Amaco velvet terracotta underglaze. Finished with NPS clear satin glaze, fired cone 10 oxidation.
